Old Oaken Bucket: an old oak bucket found on a farm in southern Indiana, hung with a chain of bronze "I" and "P" links, each engraved with a game's score, date and site.

How did the Old Oaken Bucket start?

Purdue beat Indiana 60-0 on November 14, 1891. Chicago-area alumni of both schools proposed the bucket in 1925, and it came from the Bruner family farm between Kent and Hanover, where family lore says Confederate raiders under John Hunt Morgan may have used it. The first game for it, in Bloomington in 1925, ended 0-0, so the first link added was a joint "I-P." In 2024 Indiana won 66-0 in Bloomington, the biggest margin in the series.
